Čtyřnohý míčový čaroděj Buddy opět všem ukáže, co s míčem umí! Když se trochu neslavně předvede při basketbalovém zápase, všimnou si ho majitelé ruského cirkusu a rozhodnou se získat ho pro sebe za každou cenu. Buddyho kamarád Josh teď studuje na střední škole a se spolužákem Tomem vstoupí do školního družstva amerického fotbalu. Joshova matka se seznámila s novým veterinářem Patrickem a to se Joshovi příliš nelíbí. V prvním fotbalovém zápase se zraní nejlepší obránce družstva a na hřiště pošlou Joshe. Beznadějnou situaci nakonec zachrání odvážný pes Buddy, který zastaví soupeřův pokus o vítězný míč a stane se členem mužstva. Když Josh slyší, že si chce vzít jeho máma Patricka, uteče z domu.Právě tehdy však dva Rusové Buddyho unesou! Při své záchraně bude Buddy potřebovat nejen svou šikovnost, ale i pomoc druhých: jednoho šimpanze a samozřejmě také Joshe i Patricka.
