Na začátku byl úsvit a v něm několik opic zjistilo, že chodit se dá i po dvou. Pak přišlo první manželství, první homosexuální manželství a 15 božích přikázání. Vize Mela Brookse o historii světa nás zavede do Říma, kde etiopský tanečník, pouliční filozof a palácová panna utíkají před Cézarovými vojáky, aby nakonec skončili jako zaměstnanci hostince, kde v uzavřené společnosti večeří Ježíš. Další část filmu je věnovaná Francouzské revoluci a v upoutávkách na druhý díl uvidíme třeba Hitlera jako krasobruslaře.
